Later this week, the government will introduce a bill (as soon as tomorrow) that will change our rights as Canadian consumers. I'll be brief and give you a shot list of things that are about to be outlawed:

1) Unlocking of cell phones
2) Transferring of music from CD (which you own) to your iPod
3) Recording of "time-shifted" television programs
4) Usage of mod chips and memory cards

While the legislators and their generous lobbyists may think that this provision will deal a critical blow to piracy, what they don't understand (or may not care) is that this will also infringe on our fair usage rights as consumers.

I had to be downtown this morning, and for once took the TTC all by myself. It really struck me this morning of all the differences between HK and TO; things I have to remember to write out in my travellogue.

- CLEAN AIR. *deep breaths*
- Garbage cans. HK is frustratingly devoid of garbage recepticles, and when there is one it's often cleverly hidden and more often than not just a butt stop.
- Public seating. There are no seats or chairs anywhere in HK. Prepare to stand. A lot.
- CLEAN AIR
- Lonely streets. I know it's a weekday during business hours downtown, but there's relatively nobody out like there are every day in HK.
- Trains. TTC is a stop and go line, I mean, what's with all the stops between actual stations? (There're even stop lights!) One token can get you a round trip if you don't get out. MTR is a smooth and speedy pay your way system, so if you travel further you pay more. All with the swipe of a convenient little card.
- CLEAN AIR
- Subway. Here it means the TTC or sandwhiches. In HK, it means a pedestrian underpass. Do not get confused XD
- Clean air, did I mention it yet? Not only is there less congested pollution, but there are a hell of a lot less smokers and designated smoking zones. HK supposedly has no smoking areas, but they sure as hell don't enforce it.

Whirlwind weekends seem to be happening lately. Not that I mind terribly much, but it certainly makes my school work schedule all the more crunchy...

A cool turnout of 31 people for dinner, and fun was had by all. As I was busy floating from table to table, chatting and explaining what dishes were what, I forgot to take pics this time :O However, I know a couple ppl did take pics... so I'm kinda expecting copies :P Especially for when the prizes were divied out :D There was a lot of food, some people were lucky and nabbed boxes of leftovers. Aftewards a group of nine of us trundled over to Bubblicity for some liquid sugary goodness before calling it a night - it was lots of fun :)
BTW - the real CNY is Wednesday Feb.9th!! :D

Saturday night, unfortunately, Vario didn't get his massage class because the instructor ended up sick and it has been rescheduled to later in the month. So instead Vario read some comics and helped me move a bookcase down to the basement because Mom is now on a clean-up project, having purchased new office furniture. It also means that we're finally going to go through and clean up all the boxes in our storage area... who knows what's packed down there?! For dinner we went to hit up a new gourmet burger joint in town called The Works (warning: annoying website)( review + pics! )

Well after the dinner ordeal, we finally made it out to LT&L's place for his housewarming and bday gathering :)

That was pretty much the weekend + a sunday brunch. It was all fun but I overspent this month.. whoops. Oh well, back to studying I, er, go. Yeah. Whee. Watch me go. Anyways, I'll post some pics later as I think this post is long and illustrative enough :D
