牛年恭喜發財!
May the year of the Ox bring you good health, fortune & prosperity.
(...and many red pockets! XD)

I'm a little envious of my mainland countrymen - they get 10 days off! Though, most of the time is used to travel back to their home village which could be way way WAY into the country.

No shit. I could use 10 days off. And I'm already in a little village. So that would mean no travelling.

Nothing like starting off the new year with the flu.

身體健康! (Get healthy!)

Well, you'd have to travel to your familial little village. Which I think is bigger than the one you're in.

Happy Chinese New Year to you too! :D

I was watching this documentary called Shanghai Transportation Terminal on the Discovery Channel last night, and whoa, the craziness the Chinese people go to just to travel home is unbelievable. Fights can break out simply over bus tickets. Some bus rides can be as long as 3 days. So yeah, I get why they have 10 days off if 6 of those days are spent cooped up in a bus.
