If you want to get published, there are better ways than with TP. The internet is a nice leveling field and inexpensive to boot. Heck, there are even sites that will setup your comic FOR YOU, so you don't even really have to learn html or coding or design past characters and page layouts. And I'm sure it's pretty damn easy to google a packaged layout if you do want to dabble. Or build your own.

Wow. But I can't say that I'm surprised.

no different than any other money making venture... there's a sucker born every minute, and with the manga generation, a sucker born every second.

The one thing that TP DOES have going for them is that they are a well known name famous or infamous, anyone who does submit to them are guaranteed a certain amount of exposure. It might be difficult for anyone to generate hits and interest in what you have to offer if you go solo.

It's one of the major points of concern once I get my project into the drawing phase. Currently 1/3 of the way there. >:B
